We're rolling out a major update to how accounts work on Marathon.

    Phone numbers

First up: you can now sign in with your phone number! When you create your account, you can choose the new Continue with phone option and we'll text you a code to verify it's you.

If you already have an account, you can add a phone number in the Security section in settings. You'll be able to use it to sign in.

    Change your email

If you have a phone number linked, you can now remove and change your email address in the Security settings. We recommend keeping an email linked, in case you change your phone number.

    New onboarding

Tell your friends! We've refreshed our entire onboarding flow to make it faster and easier to get started. For starters, you can now mark your progress on shows with a swipe 😉

We'll be rolling out some features from onboarding to the main app experience over the next few updates.

We're rolling out a major update to our sharing features!

Starting today, you'll see a new and improved share sheet when you share anything: a show, season, episode, review, list, or member.

    • Every shareable item now has a custom share image that you can save and share with others.

    • Tap the link icon to copy a direct link to the item.

    • You can also tap the Instagram icon (if you have it downloaded) to share the image directly to your story.

    • Tapping the Twitter or Threads icon will share a text-only post with a link back to Marathon.

    • Want to access the default share sheet? Just press the ... icon to open!

As Marathon grows, we'll be adding more image variants and share options to the share sheet.

Please tag us if you post something to your socials! We love to see what you're watching 💚

  • Tags

We're rolling out tags to our Marathon+ subscribers!

Tags are a great way to organize your reviews and lists. To get started, open a review or list and start typing in the Add tags field.

To see someone else's tags, we've added a new Tags page to all profiles. Then you can tap on any tag to see all reviews and lists with that tag.

  • Tidy-up Week

A screenshot of the refreshed Explore page, with a series of brighter colors for browsing options.

After shipping so many new features, we did a bit of tidying up this week to make sure everything is running smoothly.

You'll notice some bigger changes across the app:

    • The Explore page has gotten a major design refresh to make discovering content easier

    • There's a new History tab on your Watchlist where you can see all of your recently watched episodes

    • Your profile is no longer split into About and Activity tabs — we've merged them into a single view!

There's a bunch of other goodies sprinkled across the app. We hope these all make your Marathon experience better 💚

  • Introducing Marathon+

A golden plus button in the middle of a remote.

Today we're excited to introduce Marathon+: a new way to support Marathon and get exclusive features!

Some backstory: Marathon started off as a passion project over two years ago and has since grown into something bigger than I could have ever imagined. As Marathon continues to grow, we have remained a founder-led, bootsrapped project, only ever asking for donations to offset server costs.

We want the core of Marathon to remain free for everyone. We are not interested in serving ads or selling customer data, and we are not beholden to listen to VCs. Our one and only mission is to make Marathon the best user experience for all of you.

Marathon+ is a new way to show your support for our mission. For the low price of 1.99 USD per month, you will receive an exclusive member badge next to your name, the ability to customize your show posters, and a great number of features still to be released.

Your support means the world to us and allows us to keep Marathon ad-free and user-first. Thank you for being part of our journey and for helping us make Marathon the best it can be for everyone. 💚

  • Watch progress

A screenshot of the new watch progress indicators — not started, in progress, caught up, and finished.

As part of our new filtering system, we wanted to tackle our most popular feature request with watch progress filters.

You can now filter your watchlist and shows by how much progress you've made:

    • Not started is for shows you've added but haven't watched any episodes of

    • In progress is for shows you've started and are in the middle of watching

    • Caught up is for shows you've watched all available episodes of

    • Finished is for shows you're caught up on and that have ended

  • Filter, sort, and save

A screenshot of the new filter menu which includes options like search, progress, collection, friends, and more.

Our old filtering system was confusing for many members, so today we're introducing a brand new system!

On any filterable page, tap the new Filter button in the top right to bring up all possible filter settings.

There's also a new handy Sort button right next to it to quickly change the order of results.

Some pages, like your watchlist, will save your filters for the next time you open the app! No more re-entering the same few filters every time.
