You can now sign in with either Google, Apple, and/or your phone number.

Sign In with Phone

We're rolling out a major update to how accounts work on Marathon.

### -Phone numbers

First up: you can now sign in with your phone number! When you create your account, you can choose the new `Continue with phone` option and we'll text you a code to verify it's you.

If you already have an account, you can add a phone number in the `Security` section in settings. You'll be able to use it to sign in.

### -Change your email

If you have a phone number linked, you can now remove and change your email address in the `Security` settings. _We recommend keeping an email linked, in case you change your phone number._

### -New onboarding

Tell your friends! We've refreshed our entire onboarding flow to make it faster and easier to get started. For starters, you can now mark your progress on shows with a swipe 😉

We'll be rolling out some features from onboarding to the main app experience over the next few updates.

### New & improved

- Our Android app now supports edge-to-edge mode so you can enjoy a more immersive experience.

- Our like animation has a new look (try it out on someone's review!)

- We've added a new feed switcher to move between your `Following` feed and the global `Discover` feed.

- Adding a show will now automatically subscribe you to new episode releases.

- Email and phone number account information has been moved to the `Security` section in settings.

- Added a new `Edit profile` shortcut to settings.

- Added an option to share users, reviews, and more to Bluesky.

- Missing episode stills now are colored to match the show's color.

- We've removed the missing image icon from empty stills.

- We've started adding hints for Marathon+ features throughout the app.

- We've moved our Marathon+ banner from the settings screen to a new plus button in the top right of the app.

- Added a more obvious `Save` button to the edit rewatch sheet.

- Tweaked the design of the launch screen to make it clearer for new users.

### Fixes

- The `Save` button when adding a review now shows a loading indicator while saving.

- Fixed a bug where tapping a service or genre would restart the app.

- Fixed some visual issues with full-page sheets glitching on open and close.

- Removed the loading skeleton from the end of the feed if there is no more activity to load.


We've made major improvements to sharing in Marathon.

Share 2.0

We're rolling out a major update to our sharing features!

Starting today, you'll see a new and improved share sheet when you share anything: a show, season, episode, review, list, or member.

- Every shareable item now has a custom share image that you can save and share with others.

- Tap the link icon to copy a direct link to the item.

- You can also tap the Instagram icon (if you have it downloaded) to share the image directly to your story.

- Tapping the Twitter or Threads icon will share a text-only post with a link back to Marathon.

- Want to access the default share sheet? Just press the `...` icon to open!

As Marathon grows, we'll be adding more image variants and share options to the share sheet.

- We've rebuilt our popup sheets from the ground up to be smoother and more performant.

- Screenshotting a page in the app will now pull up a share sheet, if applicable.

- We've renamed "Stopping" to "Abandoning" to better reflect the intent of the action.

- We've added new big `Paused` and `Abandoned` filters to your watchlist and shows pages.

- You can now create a new list in the `Add to list` action on shows, seasons, and episodes.

- You can now rename rewatches from the default, in addition to adding notes.

- Skipping an episode now pops a confirmation sheet to prevent accidental skipping (you can disable this in settings).

- Confirmation sheets have a new design to make them more visually distinct.

- We've added confirmation steps to a number of destructive actions, like deleting a review or removing a show.

- Some toasts now include a checkmark to make success states more clear.

- The History page now uses more clear headers, like Today and Yesterday.

- The Upcoming page now includes episodes from paused shows so you can always see what's next.

### Fixes

- We fixed a nasty bug where commenting would sometimes freeze up the app.

- Letterboxd, Twitter, and Threads usernames can now handle periods (e.g. `josh.pensky`).

- We've added close and back buttons to all sheets to make them easier to dismiss.

- Fixed a bug on the feed where buttons would require two taps to activate when the keyboard was open.

- Fixed a visual regression where the checkmark would animate out when the checkbox was unchecked.

You'll notice some bigger changes across the app:

- Swipe up on Marathon's topbar to minimize it and get more screen real estate

- Marathon now loads up instantly, with all your data exactly how you left it

- We've added quick filters to your Watchlist, reviews, shows, and more to make finding things easier

- A refreshed overview and ratings section on our show, season, and episode pages

- Tap on posters, backdrops, and avatars to see them at full size

### Fixes

- Swiping down from the topbar will now open search on iOS devices

- Swiping back on the search page will now close search on iOS devices

- Text no longer jumps when typing in inputs throughout the app on iOS devices

- Discussions are now sorted by Popularity (instead of Recents) by default

- Headers throughout the app are now more condensed to make more room for content

- We added a button to clear the app cache to clear up space on your device

- We've updated some icons in the app to be more clear

- The settings button will now be highlighted when there's an update available

- We added a small border to the header to make it easier to see when you've scrolled down

- Pressing `return` during a search will now save your selection in recents

- Reviews now include a header title when scrolled

- Patched a nasty bug where unsubscribing from a show would remove the show from your watchlist

- Editing a comment will no longer crash the app

- Services no longer reorder themselves randomly during the onboarding flow


We're adding tags to reviews and lists for our Marathon+ subscribers.

Tidy-up Week

After shipping so many new features, we did a bit of tidying up this week to make sure everything is running smoothly.

You'll notice some bigger changes across the app:

- The Explore page has gotten a major design refresh to make discovering content easier

- There's a new `History` tab on your Watchlist where you can see all of your recently watched episodes

- Your profile is no longer split into `About` and `Activity` tabs — we've merged them into a single view!

There's a bunch of other goodies sprinkled across the app. We hope these all make your Marathon experience better 💚

- You can now favorite genres for quick access

- You can now see all your liked reviews, lists, and comments from your profile

- Recently opened search results are now saved in your recents (instead of just your queries)

- Moved follower and following count to the top of your profile page

- Added a new `Follows you` badge to profiles that follow you

- Simplified the bar chart design across the app

### Fixes

- Search will no longer save your query when pressing the back button

- Smoothed out the cutout for friends on the Watchlist page

- Renamed `Connected apps` to `Import data` on the Settings page
